Description

The tour starts in front of the Palace of Westminster, also known as the magnificent Houses of Parliament, a Gothic Revival Victorian masterpiece with its Big Ben annexed. The morning schedule includes the visit of the interior of Westminster Abbey, the most important church of England, for both an historic and an architectural point of view. The lines to get into this wonderful building are usually very long, but the presence of a guide with a Blue Badge (the only one who is able to lead groups inside the Abbey) will allow you to enter immediately and without any queue. In addition, with the Blue Badge guide, you will have a reduction on the cost of the ticket! The guide will mark the history of this famous abbey, telling visitors about the eminent people who were buried here, the coronation of Queen Elizabeth the second, the funeral of princess Diana and, of course, the wedding of William and Kate. The tour of the Abbey ends at the Poet's Corner where, amongst the others, Chaucer, father of English poetry, Charles Dickens and the composer Handel are buried. By taking part in this tour, you will get a reduction on the entrance ticket price for Westminster Abbey, which you will pay in place. The entrance tickets to Westminster Abbey are only payable by cash in pounds (GBP). Payments by card or euro are not accepted.  Entrance for Westminster Abbey costs: adults £ 20, children (ages 6-16) £ 8, seniors (ages 60+) £ 16. Once you get out of Westminster Abbey, the walk goes into the most beautiful English Royal Park, St. James' Park. There, the blooming flower beds, where the cute squirrels love chasing each other, reflect in the lake, populated by swans and pelicans. When you arrive at Buckingham Palace, it will be possible to attend the very well-known Changing of the Guard ceremony (if it's scheduled). The itinerary goes on until Trafalgar Square, where the morning walk ends. The guide will show you where you can grab a bite in the area, suggesting different options. The afternoon tour begins with a short visit at The National Gallery: the guide will show you, in chronological order, all the masterpieces of the museum, from the Italian 14th century to the Renaissance works of Leonardo, Michelangelo and Raffaello, up to the Impressionism of Monet, going out with a bang with the Post-Impressionism of Seurat and Van Gogh. After this short artistic break, there comes the time to get into the iconic double-decker bus. During this trip you will cross the whole City, walking past St. Paul's Cathedral, the Sir Christopher Wren's Baroque masterpiece, and getting off at the final stage, The Tower of London. This is where the two Henry VIII of England's wives were beheaded, and the guide will tell you a multitude of stories and legends that concern this very ancient fortress, which has been a prison, a royal palace and even a zoo. Nowadays, the Tower of London safeguards the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom. The tour ends here, from where it is possible to proceed crossing the Tower Bridge and walk along the southern bank of Thames, up to Borough Market, which is the oldest fruit and vegetable market of London. Then, you can explore the adjacent small port of St Katharine's Dock, or take the Tube at the station of Tower Hill and get back to the city center.
