The Sun In Splendour
London
Avis
Food is average. Portion sizes generous though. Decent drink (beers, etc.) selection. Service is bad. Somewhat rude and standoffish waitstaff. I understand they’re busy on Sunday but their condescending / patronising tone in interactions and generally unhappy attitude made this a poor experience. On balance, I do not recommend this establishment.
Found the ultimate date night spot in Notting Hill! ☀️💛 The Sun in Splendour is an absolute classic, located right at the start of iconic Portobello Road. You literally can’t miss its vibrant, eye-catching yellow facade—it’s so photogenic! 📸✨ It has total "I'm just a girl, standing in front of a boy..." romance vibes. 🎬🍿 While Hugh Grant might not be behind the bar, the intimate, cozy atmosphere inside is perfect for splitting a bottle of wine and enjoying some top-tier British pub food. 🍷🍽️ There’s even a hidden little garden out back that is incredibly charming. 🌿✨ An essential London stop for a romantic evening out! 🇬🇧❤️🥂
Beers are wide ranging, pub grub menu enticing, and authentically British. Exactly what we were looking for a first meal on our visit. Friendly helpful staff. Highly recommend reservations for dinner.
We tried a bit of everything beef and chicken Sunday roast, steak pie, and fish and chips. Everything was great. However the chips seemed to be refried. Toilers are not accessible. Love the atmosphere. Portions were gigantic. The outside is very beautiful and yellow 🌞☀️
We had booked a reservation for three for a Sunday roast and had an overall okay experience. I forgot to ask for proper chairs instead of barstools, I didn’t realize at the time of booking that almost every chair in the place is a stool. Something I should keep in mind while making bookings in London I suppose. The host accommodated us by giving us a table outside; I wish he sat us out there instead of just pointing to the door because all of the tables were wet and dirty and the roof had a leak in it and dripped on us. We had to arrange the tables and chairs ourselves and I had to go back inside to ask them to wipe off the tables. The waiter was really kind and attentive and cleaned up the tables and got us the menus and the dining set. I really enjoyed the pork belly but the vegetables weren’t the best I’ve had but overall it was a great meal. The beef was pretty red but we didn’t send it back. I don’t recommend the Bloody Mary, just stick with pints. The host spoke with me after our meal and told me I should make a special request for a chair for future bookings. Overall had an alright experience.
