The Speaker is a lovely pub with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. It’s a great place to unwind after exploring the city. The food and drinks were good, and the staff were friendly and attentive throughout the visit. I especially liked the cozy interior and the overall classic London pub vibe. A nice spot to enjoy with friends or family, and I’d happily come back again.

A fine selection of well kept cask ales justifies this pub being a regular entry in the Good Beer Guide. It was a real pleasure to call in.

The Speaker is a corner pub near Victoria station and St James’s Park. Compact but comfortable, it has a wood-panelled bar and extra seating upstairs. There’s a good range of hand-pulled beers, several lagers, and a reliably decent Guinness. Wines and champagne are sensibly priced for the area — £6.90 for a Guinness feels par for the course. Service is quick and friendly, and the atmosphere is lively and easygoing without being rowdy. A nice touch is the plaque by the door explaining the pub’s name, linked to a 17th-century Speaker of the House whose infamous squint led to the tradition of naming MPs before they speak. It adds a bit of character without overdoing it. Food is available, though with Strutton Ground just round the corner there’s no shortage of good places to eat. A solid pub for a drink in Victoria.
