We had a great lunch here after visiting Westminster Abbey. My wife and I could have easy split the fish and chips which was a huge portion size!
Great atmosphere for us to gather to raise a glass in the Recessed area by the entrance. We celebrate the 18th century poet and wit John Gay every year after our Westminster Memorial Anniversary Gathering on July 3rd
A fun little pub tucked away behind the supreme courts. A good selection of beers on the main floor and nice food in the upstairs dining room. Not large space and can be busy. Perfect place to grab a pint or meal if you are down in Westminster.
While in England, we wanted to try classic fish and chips, and this place was among the recommended spots. They serve the fish as half-boned, and the batter is extremely thick, so the fish absorbed a lot of oil. The interior is very stuffy and smells strongly of oily fish (this might be normal, but it needs ventilation).
A very pleasant experience. Been to this pub before in the evening during the working week and it was packed out, but lunchtime at the weekend was much easier to find seating - which was great given how many tourists are in the area. Full selection of Shepherd Neame beers. We had the Spitfire and Whitstable Ale, both good. The food was good quality and very big portions, so great value and reasonably priced. Staff working in the pub were all very friendly.
