A fantastic live music venue in a vibrant and lively part of London. There is great audio throughout the venue and the stage is at a good height so that you can see it well. Security is very efficient and getting in and out of the venue is really easy and quick.
Fantastic venue. Places like this will beat the big arenas every time. Saw Pet Shop Boys here a few weeks ago. I would say that I felt that too many tickets had been sold. Very hard for a short arse like me to see anything and it did just feel a bit too cramped. Some seriously bad attitude from one of the Security staff....think he was on a bit of a power trip and only seemed to be "dealing" with women or people a lot smaller than him....leaving those who were larger and displaying what could have turned in to unsafe behaviour unchallenged. Luckily he was a rogue one and the others were fine. Bar staff were all lovely. Toilets surprisingly clean for a gig ...so bonus points for that.
There's a moment, somewhere between the second pint and the support act, when you realise the Electric Ballroom doesn't really care whether you're enjoying yourself. It's been doing this since long before you turned up, and it'll keep doing it long after. The walls have absorbed more sweat, smoke and questionable life decisions than most therapists, and they're not telling. The balcony is the prize, if you can get there. Brilliant views, limited seating, and a vague sense that you've earned something other people haven't. I'd suggest arriving early, but I won't pretend I did. Bar prices are reasonable, which in Camden feels like a small act of rebellion. Staff are friendly in that unbothered way that suggests they've seen worse than you. The ghosts of various legends loiter in the memorabilia, watching you queue for a plastic cup of lager and not judging, exactly. Just observing. It's yards from the tube, which matters more at eleven than it did at seven. Go for the band. Stay because you forgot you were meant to leave.
Very rough area outside the venue so be careful with mobile phones being in sight. Electric Ballroom is literally 2 minutes walk from CAMDEN TOWN tube station (turn right when you exit turnstile). Inside there are upstairs balconies and bars. Downstairs more bars and on the lower level a cloakroom. There are toilets. I found the venue to be overcrowded when I went to see PSB last week. So turn up VERY early if you want a good view. There are lots of pillars surrounding the main standing area. They have TV’s on them so you can watch the show! Had an upstairs merchandise stall and lounge but not sure that is a permanent feature. You can’t see the stage from there. There is MINIMAL seating if you want to see the stage. Wheelchairs are set on a stair landing with maximum capacity of 3 I would think. Place is a bit grubby. Sound isn’t the best either. If you were going and it was less overcrowded you would probably enjoy yourself more or if you don’t want to see the band just hear them then the main bar is fine to stand by. Steep steps down into the venue and down to the cloakroom. Sets of stairs to the balconies. No lifts.
Old, tired building, but to be expected with its history. One perk is how close it is to Camden Town tube! Literally a few mins walk! Helpful staff. Bar good, toilets clean from what I saw on my only visit. Not the biggest venue - but I guess that makes it more personal…? Cloak/storage room available, but I did not use this. Seating only available on upper level, and they are basic, backless stools. Paid VIP tickets to see Cavetown, but no seating/bar priority perks.
