I’m from California and love stopping here when I’m travelling, for food and beer. I’ve eaten here several time and just love it. I took my son and we hung out and played board games. I’ve also brought many friends here. It’s awesome. I’ll be back summer 2027
Loved everything about this - came for Sunday lunch, arrived earlier than the reservation I made online. The guy sat us immediately anyway and just top notch service the whole evening. Bustling and full of folk, the perfect Sunday and perfect roast.
While the food was excellent - as were the libations, the service was running behind (reflected in the star rating) - food came out 45 minutes after placing the order. The pub was busy with quiz night - it was St. Patrick's Day after all - and it was loud. LOUD! Though we reserved a table at a specific time and arrived at the correct time (7:30 pm), the staff had to relocate a couple of guests in order to make room for us. By the door. Cold wind blasts every 3-5 minutes. I'm sure Cock & Bottle is amazing on a regular basis, but it was a bit dismaying to be the cause of relocating other patrons and to wait until after 8:15 pm for dinner. Thankfully, it was delicious. I would definitely go back to this pub, hoping they'd be better about making sure some space is reserved for, well, reservations.
We came here for Christmas Day lunch and it was their first ever Christmas service, so huge credit for taking that on. We preordered and the whole experience felt really thoughtful and well put together. The food was good overall. The scallops and the beet and goats cheese salad were great starters, and for mains we had the duck Wellington and the halibut, both really tasty. Dessert was a crumble and a chocolate mousse, which finished things off nicely. A few small things held it back from being perfect. The pub was quite cold, the water in the bathrooms was cold too, and there was a pretty long wait between courses. The roast potatoes also weren’t as crispy as we were hoping. That said, it was still a really lovely way to spend Christmas Day and we’d happily come back.
🚇 Notting Hill Gate 🍺 £6.40 Pravha The Cock & Bottle is tucked away in the backstreets of Notting Hill, just off swanky Westbourne Grove. The nearest Tube is Notting Hill Gate. This striking Victorian pub was built in 1851 and was originally called The Swan. It still has multiple doorways on Needham Road from when it was divided into several rooms. The name changed to The Cock & Bottle in the late 1980s. At the front is an original Banksy. The Victorian charm continues inside, where you’ll find an inviting, traditionally decorated one-bar pub. The bar area is split into three sections, with two larger spaces at the front and a snug at the back left. The servery is centrally located and features a stunning ornate bar-back. Upstairs is the Sutherland Room for functions, and outside are tables and chairs for the warmer months. The decor includes a boarded floor, banquette seating, sturdy tables, burgundy, white and grey walls, and heavy velvet curtains. Nice touches include superb mirrors, a period fireplace, historical photos and a painting of ex-Guv’nor Paul. This Young’s pub offers a good mix of beers, including familiar favourites, independent brewery options and two cask ales. I went for a Pravha — my pint was great and the price was surprisingly under six quid. The food menu features pub classics: fish and chips is £18.50, and roasts are available on Sundays. I arrived at 1 p.m. on a mild Wednesday lunchtime in November. A few punters were dotted around inside and out, and the atmosphere was calm. The service was first-class. I had a great chat with two lovely team members, who told me about the pub and the legendary Irish landlord Paul, who ran it for years. The pub hosts a Quiz Night on Tuesday and shows live sport. I left this backstreet boozer with a big smile on my face. The architecture and setting were spot on, the decor — especially the bar-back — was a joy, my beer was on point and the hospitality warm and welcoming. I absolutely loved it here and 100% recommend a visit.
