Nice atmosphere and fast service. My partners fish and chips were good. The serving size generous. I ordered the "crispy gnocchi". Nothing crispy about it.. very glutenous and stuck together. Basically inedible. Lesson learnt here is probably stick to the traditional pub fare like the fish and chips.
We had a truly fantastic experience at The Stanhope Arms in South Kensington. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and authentically British. The pub beautifully combines Victorian charm with a lively yet relaxed ambiance, making it the perfect spot for both a casual drink and a memorable meal. A big mention to the staff who were extremely nice to all of us. Why can’t all pubs have staff like this. The food was excellent—fresh, generous, and full of flavour. The classic pub dishes were cooked to perfection, and the drinks selection was equally impressive. What really stood out, however, was the friendly and attentive service. The staff made us feel genuinely welcome and went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. Its location opposite Gloucester Road Station makes it incredibly convenient, and the traditional pub setting, high ceilings, and buzzing atmosphere give it a character that many London pubs lack. Whether you’re a local or visiting London, this is a pub that’s well worth a visit. I will definitely be returning and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a true Kensington pub experience.
The fish and chips was absolutely dire - overcooked and dry and with such a hard baked texture it was almost inedible. The chips were moderate. Paying nearly £20 for something that wasn’t really a pleasure to eat - had to leave most of it - was really disappointing. But the manager was lovely and apologised profusely offering me another meal. I appreciate that I was heard. I have upgraded the review accordingly.
This is a very lovely pub. The atmosphere is very vibrant & warm. Lots of people chatting away enjoying each other's company. The seasonal decorations were so cute and all of the food was presented so well. Everything we ordered was delicious and fresh. I would absolutely visit again! But be sure to call ahead because it was packed. We were lucky to be seated!
