Like any good East End boozer, the Old Red Cow serves the best local brews on tap; however, unlike most East End boozers, it also serves excellent British pub food with finesse.

The roasts here are excellent, and the scotch eggs are also very good. Do not miss the chips. Actually, if you like very good food and drinks in unpretentious and very casual surroundings, this fits the bill very nicely.

Located on the doorstep of Smithfield, London's historic meat market, the pub also has one of the best selections of beers and ales on tap and bottle anywhere in the city. The list of orders is refreshed at the start of every week, so ask the bartender to take you through a few of his favourites.

The interior is functional yet comfortable, and though attention is paid to the occasional decorative touch, the abundance of brewery logos on the walls indicate that here, it's all about the beer and food.
