We had a memorable dinner at the Pelican and left with happy bellies. Meats were well executed - standouts to us were the lamb, hake fish and steak. Service staff were friendly too and had helpful recommendations. Definitely needs a booking as they were absolutely hopping on a weekend. A little hard to hear friends talk in the buzz but it’s a lovely ambiance.

Another lunch, another attempt to convince ourselves that small portions are elegant rather than insufficient. Met a friend for lunch at The Pelican in Notting Hill. I’d had a late breakfast, so I wasn’t particularly hungry and ordered the trout. Small, delicate… small …although the white sauce and I simply failed to develop a meaningful relationship. The octopus was the dish of the day and genuinely delicious. Again, not exactly generous. At these prices, one starts expecting portions that require at least a little commitment. Then we ordered coffee. “There isn’t any.” I’m sorry… a gastropub without coffee? Was this an avant-garde performance piece? So we settled for water and Coke. Then came the next surprise: they don’t accept cash. Has cash quietly resigned from its position as legal tender while I wasn’t looking? A little later our waitress was sitting on the pavement outside enjoying her break. Perfectly reasonable until an entirely unnecessary thought wandered into my head: I do hope she washes her hands afterwards. Liberalism is a wonderful thing, but like seasoning, it tends to work best in moderation. The interior also feels rather tired. Not charmingly worn-in - just genuinely worn. Even the corners no human hand has touched in years seem to have given up. A little refresh would go a long way toward making the place feel warmer and more welcoming.

A delightful experience. The food is straight to the point, just as it should be. The chefs allow for the ingredients to speak for themselves, highlighting the quality of the ingredients without overpowering them. I would highly recommend the onglet. The ambiance of the restaurant was excellent, allowing the energy of the pub to spill over to the restaurant section. Staff were very nice too. Highly recommend if you are able to make a booking.

Came here for my boyfriends birthday and had a brilliant meal, service was amazing - both Tilly and Vlada really took the time to make sure we understood the menu and were so amazing throughout - thank you ladies! The food was outstanding, the atmosphere was great, felt like we were in a countryside kitchen rather than London. We will be back! Thank you :)

A restaurant with an amazing atmosphere in notting hill. I had visited before in the winter and enjoyed cocktails by the beautiful fireplace inside. In the summer, they also have outdoor seating, which makes it just as lovely. The food is absolutely delicious. During our London trip, I took my parents there, and it ended up being their favorite restaurant with their favorite dishes. The service, ambiance, and food are all exceptional. Highly recommended!
