London Transport Museum

London

Museums Attractions

In the heart of the Covent Garden you will find the ever-impressive Transport museum - a tribute to London's transport system through the years. It is housed in a large building built in 1872, which was previously used as part of the old Covent Garden Flower Market. The museum operates from two sites in London, the main one being Covent Garden and the other, located in Acton, known as the London Transport Museum Depot, principally used as a storage site and open on regular visitor days throughout the year.

London's Transport Museum tells us the story of how transport in London has evolved over time to be the system that it is today, and having to cope with the millions of people who use it daily. The museum travels back through time, over 200 years, through the history of public transport and is arranged according to several themes: London Transport's famous design heritage, the poster collection, public transport during both World Wars and future plans for development in the Capital City, London.

You are able to explore all modes of transport, be it climbing aboard century-old buses, or taking a ride on the train simulator. The museum boasts all kinds of fascinating facts and memorabilia with posters and tickets, horse buses, electric trams and trolleybuses. It is also very interactive for kids, allowing them to press buttons, turn wheels and spin signs - and generally have a good day out.
