Scala
London
A satisfyingly murky and deceptively massive venue, Scala’s myriad of stairwells, floors, stages and rooms plays host every weekend to a diverse array of DJs and live acts. Surrounding one large main stage, there are four floors, three bars and two dance floors. Where there aren’t bands performing, you’ll find burlesque artists and DJs in the smaller rooms – there’s a performance literally everywhere you turn. The walls are washed a seductive shade of red and the music policy varies but always errs on the side of accessibly cool – indie, rock, metal and hip-hop can be seen on any given night of the week, and at the weekend are dedicated club nights.
Despite its size, due to its layout the club’s feel is much more intimate than, say, the Forum and the crowd is one fun and up for it; young, twentysomething, hip and relaxed. The upstairs stage is a personal favourite, with its small, personal booths and relaxed club feel.
Opening times: Times vary depending on what the event is. Check the website for a full list of events.
