The Hoxton Pony
The Hoxton Pony glows like a spaceship thanks to the lengths of neon striplighting, and most of the chairs are more like leather cubes where they've been placed in various seating areas that pit and pile the Pony.
The main bar is lined with low-backed stools, while elsewhere there are skirted seating plans, cosy corners, and a sunken floor area accessible by a small staircase making for a very personal drinking zone.
The Pony is an epitomising cocktail bar, putting cocktails high up on their website's homepage, while food appears further down the list of clickable options. Confidently advertising their cocktail expertise even more, there's the Tea Party.
Held daily (but not quite like other London afternoon tea selections), the Pony's tea party is alcohol-fueled, albeit having some ties with tradition in the form of small china teacups. With the tea party, you and your mates get served a £50 'infusion jar' of a cocktail of your choice, and the rest is up to you lot. The infusion jars keep themselves cool, so there's no need to hurry.
Other than cocktails, the Pony hosts many a wild party with local DJs spinning their best sets for an exciting evening of dancing and raving. One of the standout nights is the It's Your Birthday every Thursday night where drinks are half price - all night.
One last hook that has to pull you in to this great east London joint is the gin. Hoxton Gin, created by all-round drinks, bar-tending and event-planning supreme, Gerry Calabrese, Hoxton Gin utilises the exotic flavours of coconut and grapefruit to give a bold and well-rounded mouthful. Allowing for a whole new chapter in cocktail mixes, Hoxton Gin is a London one-off and something that cannot be missed.
