Situated in the heart of the UK’s financial district is a gem, Leadenhall. This restored Victorian food market is a magnificent place to pick up luxury food items at a fraction of the normal retail prices. The building itself is an eye-catching masterpiece and was built and designed in 1881 by Sir Horace Jones.
The market derives its name from a lead-roofed mansion that stood nearby in the 14th Century. The structure stands on the site of a Roman forum and has been a food market since the Middle Ages. The cobbled walkways and glass roof make it a picturesque place to shop, eat, drink or merely relax.
Leadenhall Market features a host of gourmet ingredients and fine wines and is especially good for cheese, seafood, meat and poultry, game and other rarer meats. It is open Monday to Friday from 7am – 4pm and is at its liveliest around lunch time, when the surrounding city workers wander down for a well deserved lunch break. Why not take a wander yourself through this particularly picturesque slice of old London life and visit the market today.
Opening times: Public areas open 24 hours. Market stalls open daily from Monday - Friday between 11:00 & 16:00. Shop opening times vary.
