One New Change
London
The Jean Nouvel-designed One New Change is a complex of office buildings, shops and restaurants located in the heart of the City. As befitting its location opposite St Paul's Cathedral, it attracts plenty of custom from nearby office workers descending for their breaks and happy hours. Shops are unremarkable and feel placed more convenience than statement: H&M, Mango and Topshop hold up the high street section for fast fashion while the likes of Banana Republic, Reiss, Hugo Boss, Allsaints and Guess? represent the midmarket and above, with the Superdry store being particularly large. There are some good jewellery options too, as Swarovski, Swatch, Azendi and Oliver Bonas all have stores here. Office and Kurt Geiger are also present, for that glam shoe fix.
Where One New Change has done well, however, is in ensuring a brace of high-profile restaurants by Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay to set up shop. Barbecoa, Jamie Oliver's collaborative barbecue restaurant can be found here along with Ramsay's dress-down Bread Street Kitchen, offering competitive options to picky City diners. The ever-wonderful Bea's of Bloomsbury also has a café here serving scrumptious cakes and teas, and there's an outpost of casual hamburger restaurant Byron here too.
If the prospect of yummy treats doesn't grab you, consider bringing the significant other or friends to Madison, a bar at the top of the complex. While the regular seating area affords lush views across the London skylines and a particularly awesome up-close view of St Pauls, the roof deck is a revelation on a summer day. Worth a visit, if only for that.
Opening Hours - As it's an open outdoor complex, different shops have different opening times. In general, shop will open 1000 to 1800, while restaurants will stay open til 2300 to midnight.
Nearest Tube - St Pauls.
