The Cock Tavern
London
Newly refurbished with all the trimmings and hallmarks of an awesome London imbibing establishment, you'll be lucky to find another place to match the trendy quirkiness of Fulham's Cock Tavern. 'How's that?' we hear you ask. Well, we don't know of anywhere else in the city where you can order your food using old-fashioned telephones from the 60s and 70s.
That's the kind of thing you can expect here: oddities and retro objects which help characterise The Cock Tavern. However, you'll also find a stack of board games for when you and your mates pop in on a rainy day. Who needs XBoxes and Playstations when there's Scrabble and Monopoly in the same vicinity as a wicked bar serving fine wines and sumptuous ales. It's like being in your old front room, here. They even have the papers spread out and soothing music playing throughout the joint (which changes to fit the weather).
If none of this is up your street, grab yourself that book you've been meaning to start and bring it with you to The Cock. Settle down in one of their many mismatched pieces of furniture and, after a hearty Sunday roast, you've got no excuses not to start it right away.
For somewhere that does delectable fish pies for a fiver or mac and cheese for just shy of £5, a beef burger for under a tenner and BBQ ribs for five quid as well, The Cock really can't be ignored. It looks and feels homely, cosy, calm and relaxed. And it is. We highly recommend it for an afternoon of peace.
