The Guards Museum
London
Committed to providing a safe and secure place for artifacts belonging to the five regiments of Her Majesty's Foot Guards, The Guards Museum contains an extensive array treasures from the regiments of the Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots, Irish and Welsh Guards. The museum strives to ensure that this collection remain available for viewing not only by members of the regiments, but also by the general public too. Tracing over 360 years of military history, the museum traces service to the Sovereign, with their history of serving as the royal bodyguards since Charles I reign.
With a wealthy selection of exhibits provided by the trustees and curator, the displays are also frequently rotated with items on loan or artifacts from the reserve collection. Whilst the collection is primarily used as an educational aid to help young Guardsmen learn about their regimental heritage, the collection shows a wider audience the versatile nature of the Guardsmen's lives, whilst in combat and on ceremonial duties.
Being one of the best regimental military museums in the country, the Guards Museum actively encourages school visits and provides activities for children to make their trip both enjoyable and informative. There is a museum trail, questionnaires and fancy dress facilities which enable children to learn, play make-believe and discover something new. Children can also be photographed wearing a full dress jacket, bearskin and present day combat helmet.
