Bomber Command Memorial
London
In the Second World War, 55, 573 members of the Bomber Command aircrew gave their lives for Britain. Honouring their sacrifice, the RAF Benevolent Fund is the guardian of the Memorial in Green Park.
The memorial is made of Portland Stone with bronze sculptures of the crew. Open roofed, the memorial was designed by architect Liam O'Connor so that the sculptures are always seen with the open sky above them; a symbolic reminder.
Located in tranquil Green Park, the memorial is a poignant and fitting tribute.
