Dennis Severs' House
London
For his own personal enjoyment, Dennis Severs lived in a magical world of history and tradition. Instead of keeping up with modern times, Severs chose to live in his house much like its original owners in the 18th century.
His aim (and game) is that upon entering the house, you wander into the world of Huguenot silk weavers. This house is the story of the fictional Jervis family who lived at the house from 1725 to 1919. Each room recreates moments in the lives of these imaginary inhabitants. Guests travel in silence through the ten rooms in search of the weavers, their senses teased by glowing candlelight and aromatic food.
The sensory journey is a tactile lesson in the history and art through experiencing the old world first hand. The walls are adorned with magnificent paintings and portraits collected by Severs while each room is a magical entryway into your imagination.
Whilst on the tour you pass through the dark cellar, kitchen, chambers and more.
