Time for a Story
Since 1874, the world's oldest collection of watches and clocks has been on display. This began nearly 70 years prior in the Clockmaker's Company Library but, back then, all that was on display were manuscripts and reference papers with details on how the clocks were made. Now, relocated to the Guildhall Library and open to the public since 1925, a vast collection of watches, clocks and time pieces are on full display, safely housed in pristine glass cabinets.
Time on the Inside
Within the confines of the Guildhall Library where you'll find the Clock Museum, there are literally hundreds of time-keeping devices including marine timekeepers and portraits of horological faces. Incidentally, some of the marine pieces date back to the early 1700s, and make up some of the most scientifically important items in the entire collection.
