Book your reservation at Wiltons months in advance. Then look forward to a leisurely stroll down Jermyn Street, where you say hello to Beau Brummell (1778–1840), the great arbiter of men's fashion, browse the shop windows, and step into beautiful Wiltons—a restaurant founded in 1742, a few decades before Beau was born. The moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed. The host will happily store your coat and bags before escorting you to your table. We were seated in a luxurious booth adorned with decorative pillows, a setting that felt elegant without being too ostentatious. Our waiter was a gentleman in every sense of the word: calm, formal, precise, and at ease. He made us feel comfortable. He and the supporting staff were impeccably dressed in jackets and ties, moving with a quiet confidence that perfectly matched the white tablecloths and gleaming silver service. They appeared precisely when needed, never interrupted our conversation, and often anticipated requests before they were voiced. We were immediately struck by a style of hospitality that felt wonderfully old-fashioned. It was not stiff or pretentious, but gracious and assured. My wife leaned in and said, “It feels like we're at Downton Abbey.” Indeed, dining at Wiltons feels like stepping into another era. The restaurant offers an atmosphere of historical continuity rather than the latest fashly novelty. Much like the UK Parliament, Wiltons preserves a tradition through practiced habits and the transmission of norms and professional culture from one generation to the next. My spouse and I ordered Wiltons' famous fish pie, and it fully justified its reputation. The pie is a comforting dish built around pieces of fresh fish nestled in a rich, cream sauce (it’s not soupy). It is topped with a layer of mashed potatoes baked to a golden finish, creating a pleasing contrast between the crisp top and the seafood beneath. Nestled on top center is a perfectly cooked hard-boiled egg. The rich yolk adds both visual appeal and an additional layer of richness to the pie. Order it! As we prepared to leave, I thanked our waiter for a memorable evening. He smiled and replied simply, “If you are happy, I am happy.” That sentence, I think, captures the spirit and experience of Wiltons perfectly.
Fortunately my second trip to Wiltons and just as good as the first. The food is hearty, comforting and delicious. Although famous for their seafood, I opted to try the mixed grill this time for the main course and it did not disappoint (arrive hungry for this one). I also tried the cucumber martini and am pleased to report it was eminently quaffable. The smoked salmon starter was good and the trifle for dessert nicely presented. The service was excellent, unhurried and attentive at the right moments. I am delighted that such an institution of London’s restaurant scene is still going strong.
Wiltons is one of the finest seafood restaurants in the world. The stunning originality of the dishes made with the finest ingredients is matched with the efficient and friendly service that makes dining a genuine pleasure. A wonderful escape not be missed and just gets better every time you visit. Highly recommended.

This is the second time I’ve chosen Wilton’s Seafood Restaurant for my wife’s birthday. The food was excellent—large, fresh oysters, one of the best Wellington beef dishes I’ve ever had, and an unforgettable fish pie. The service and atmosphere perfectly complement this historic restaurant, started year 1742, which has been around for over 280 years. Thank you for such a lovely birthday dinner at Wilton’s!
