The new Alexander McQueen store in Mayfair opened in August 2012 just before London’s fashion week, an accolade to the success of this unique designer. This comes two years after his sudden suicide at his home in Green Park and the appointment of new head of design Sarah Burton.
Sarah Burton designed Kate Middleton’s famous lace wedding dress for her nuptials to Prince William in 2011.
The new three-storey boutique in Mayfair is decorated with a red leather lift, shagpile carpets, suede walled changing rooms and velvet chairs. This decadent setting creating a sense of intimacy and is the perfect backdrop to McQueen and Burton’s collections. These features are in contrast to the technical and modern floor length mirrors with inbuilt cameras that allow shoppers to photograph themselves in the outfit and email it to friends and fashion advisors.
