Old Red Lion Theatre
London
Islington's Old Red Lion Theatre pub was founded in the late seventies, and has been attracting bright young stars of the theatre industry ever since. It's a great, small-scale platform which many budding actors have used to get themselves more recognition. And, with its dual function of a great London pub, it pulls in a lot more punters than it would if it were a theatre all on its own.
The interiors of the Old Red Lion are battered and well-worn, with the theatre itself hosted on the first floor while the rabble of the bar dominates ground level. The atmosphere's always lively but harmless and the clientèle equally so.
As far as productions go, they're holding performances of Henry V, The Revenger's Tragedy, One in Five, Writer's Bloc, Women Laughing, My First Sexual Failures, and Happy Birthday, Wanda June. Ultimately, these productions will culminate in mid-late November of 2012.
You can hire the theatre every Monday night. It'll cost £250. The price includes full technical support as necessary and full operation of the entire box office. To get a shot of hiring the venue, drop Old Red Lion a quick email using the enquiry form at the bottom of the page.
