Ducksoup
London
To say that the interior aesthetics of Ducksoup were a stripped-back affair would be an understatement. The walls are gleaming whitewash bare brick and some of the light fittings are merely naked bulbs with the cords scrunched up above them. Although there are menus on the tables, more food and drink options are scrawled on white and blackboards on the wall by the bar, alongside which sit a couple of rows of reds and whites.
The basic layout of the bar/restaurant really doesn't pull down Ducksoup in the opinion stakes. We reckon it only enhances it and, once you've taken a sip of one of their quality wines, taken a few nibbles from a cheeseboard or sampled some posh bar snacks like Chipirones (fried squid served with, among other things, its own ink), everything else will pale into existence anyway.
The staff here are super friendly and knowledgeable, pairing food with wine perfectly. They won't hustle you into leaving early so someone else can fill your place; they only add to the relaxing a charming atmosphere that Ducksoup so naturally possesses. Oh, one last thing, there isn't any duck soup on the menu.
