The Royal Oak

Pubs

If there's anything you can take away from a visit to The Royal Oak, apart from the amount of quality food and drink they serve, it's all the other stuff you can do here. It's not just your average London watering hole; it's like an institution of fun. They have a table tennis table, for crying out loud. On their website they have an entire page devoted to the rules, the laws and etiquette behind traditional table tennis. Also they encourage you partake in Beer Pong (again, check the website for a rundown on that).

There's something different happening at The Royal Oak every night of the week: Mondays they serve pizza for a fiver; Tuesdays are quiz nights; Wednesdays - well, there's nothing happening specifically, but they like treating their guests to free hugs, and urge guests to hug each other for free - Thursdays have been designated for swing and jive lessons; Fridays see the ping-pong bats come out with fast-paced table tennis comps; while Saturday they operate fully-licensed lock-ins so you and your mates can stay till 03:00 and drink to your hearts' contents. Sundays bring all the action back down to a leisurely stroll with platefuls of Sunday roasts and Bloody Mary cocktails.

Elsewhere there's a sumptuous pup-grub food menu with the likes of 8oz burgers for £8 (which can be doubled up for £12), vege and chicken burgers; beer-battered haddock fillets; jumbo sausages and mash with gravy; hotdogs either plain or the 8' German Brockwurst served with mustard and fries (you can add bacon, cheese or chilli beef for £1 each); light bites such as jumbo gherkins with salt beef and sauerkraut or a tortilla wrap; sharing platters; and what they like to call 'Posh Pizzas' whose options include Margherita, hot sausage, four cheese, Forest Fumble (mozzarella, ricotta, wild mushroom, rocket and truffle oil), or a Hawaiian.

The Royal Oak really is where it's at, and everything's really chilled out inside, even the prices. So there's really no need to hesitate with this one. Gather your closest mates and take them all out to one of the awesomely fun nights that they lay on here. Grab some of their gorgeous food and a drink while you're at it.
