Caravan Exmouth Market
London
Caravans: to some, they're the lumbering, unpredictable yetis of the road. To others, they're a convenient means of transportation and accommodation on the move. But we're not talking vehicles here, we're talking big-time contenders for London's brunch and breakfast specialists. Coffee, tea, eggs, and generally really healthy fare is what the guys at Caravan have the luxury to boast about.
Sounds a bit basic, doesn't it? You'll change your mind once you've been to this place. They know their way around a coffee machine, they've poured more cups of tea than you've had hot dinners, and the way they do their omelettes, well, words won't do it justice - you literally have to go see for yourself.
They throw in slices of mackerel to give the omelette more body and saffron just adds to the colour. The fry-up with spicy chorizo, eggs and dollops of yoghurt sounds a little unconventional for London and the UK in general. Well, that's definitely true but, considering the guys at Caravan are Kiwis (Brit slang for New Zealanders), the combination makes a little more sense. And the truth only comes to the fore when fork passes teeth.
Although Caravan does equally splendid meals for all times of the day, it's known for its early-riser dishes. Often busy at the start of each day, Caravan won't let that stop you being warmly welcomed and catered for. Take a seat at the bar if you have to wait and enjoy some professionally-made coffee.
Opening times: Monday - Friday: 08:00 - 22:30, Weekends: 10:00 - 22:30 (closed Sunday evenings)
