The food itself was pleasant, and I have no criticism whatsoever of the kitchen. The service, however, was genuinely embarrassing for a Michelin-accoladed restaurant. We were asked which appetizer had been our favorite, only for the waiter to walk away before either of us had the chance to answer. While we were still eating our parfait, another member of staff stood by the table waiting for us to finish despite us still having several bites left, making us feel rushed throughout the meal. When we decided to order more food, our server was already walking away before we had finished speaking, and we had to call him back just to order another round of drinks. The crumbs from the bread served with our appetizers were never cleared before the next dishes arrived, to the point where I ended up brushing them off the table myself. I had every intention of raising these issues during the meal, but despite several opportunities, nobody asked how our experience was or whether everything had been satisfactory. The final insult was the 15% discretionary service charge. Charging that for the level of service we received was difficult to justify. We had planned to order extensively from the menu and spend the evening there, but instead chose to leave before we even reached the main courses. This was not the standard I expect from a restaurant with Michelin recognition, and it was a deeply disappointing experience.
The black truffle scrambled eggs were rich, flavorful and definitely the highlight of the meal. The eggs Benedict was also very good, with perfectly cooked eggs and an excellent sauce. I also had the Jasmine pearl tea, which was smooth and complemented the food nicely. The service was excellent throughout, they were attentive the made sure everything was just right. The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed, making it a great place to relax. Prices are on the higher side, but the quality of the food and service make it worth it for an occasional treat.
The staff were excellent, welcoming and friendly. I got some great recommendations for the wine from the sommelier who was brilliant. The wines we selected paid well but were also very unique. HIDE has a great wine selection! The food was perfect, hearty and filling but everything cooked with finesse. The balance of flavours and the richness was exactly what I was looking for. The portions were very good and accompanied with fantastic side dishes that were simple and elegant I would love to come back sometime and try the tasting menu!
Probably some of the best food I’ve ever have! It’s delicious! The starters are highly recommended (I recommend the Lobster & scallop katafi fried dumpling with black pepper oyster sauce and the Short-rib beef fried sandwich with dill gherkin ketchup over the Soft-shell crab tempura). The attention was great, really friendly and the place was STUNNING. A wonder to be in while you eat, enjoy and celebrate.
Arrived early Tuesday at 9am and the Maître d’ ushered me promptly to my seat. He was attentive to my needs and even brought me a pillow for my very expectant back. What a lovely gesture! A waiter then came along to take my drinks order and I had a blueberry and rose petal smoothie (4/5) - didn’t taste any rose and it was a little gritty due to the blueberry seeds I believe. I also ordered a hot chocolate chai (5/5) - so decadent and deliciously subtly spiced. As for food, I had a single Egg Royale (4.5/5) - they were generous with the smoked salmon and the muffin was very pillowy. The hollandaise sauce was a little too vinegary to my liking. I also had a French toast with blueberry compote and creme crue (5/5). Perfect sweet breakfast! The creme crue was similar to creme fraiche. The bathroom was very clean and well stocked. Overall and I enjoyed my solo breakfast experience in The Hide Mayfair!
