Locanda Locatelli
London
Locanda Locatelli is the home of Sicilian chef and adopted Londoner Giorgio Locatelli, one of Britain’s most celebrated Italian chefs.
The cosy, warm and refined Mayfair restaurant serves refined and stylishly simple takes on Southern Italian cuisine – everything about a meal here is consistently sublime, from simple things like the bread basket through to the main courses and olives. Unfamiliar combinations like braised ox cheeks with red wine and chocolate are wonderfully unexpected and delicious, but similarly a simple dish of handmade pasta with butter and truffles can be incredible. Produce is super-fresh and impeccably sourced.
The dining room is hushed and quiet, with lots of white linen and frosted glass, and service is excellent. Wines are also reasonable for a restaurant of this calibre (it has maintained a Michelin star for years now), with several coming in at under £30.
It is rather popular, however, so do book ahead to ensure a table.
