Sophie's Steakhouse
London
Sophie's Steakhouse is as vibrant as the food is delicious. They've created a really fun and casual atmosphere in their debut Chelsea restaurant (the other one being in Covent Garden) so you'll definitely enjoy a meal there, whatever the occasion. It's perfectly placed, as well, with Cineworld literally across the road. So, you can come here for pre/post-movie eats, a quick lunch thanks to their express lunchtime menu, or in the evening for a hearty dish of meat.
You'll notice when you see the menu that Sophie's, unlike other self-proclaimed steakhouses, caters for more tastes and appetites than cavernous carnivorous ones. There are salads, pies and fish as well as steaks. Ok, so the salads come with slices of meat (like the peppered steak salad, warm chicken salad, or the Caesar with either anchovies, char-grilled chicken or a salmon fillet), and the pies are meaty too (steak, mushroom and Guinness, cottage pie or chicken, mushroom and leek, to name a few). However, looking at the rest of the menu, Sophie's certainly don't skimp on portion sizes. How about a 28oz porterhouse, a 24oz Cote de Boeuf or a 20oz Chateaubriand? The usual fare follows on with 16oz sirlions, 10oz rib-eyes and an 8oz fillet and, of course, all are cooked to your liking and served on chunky, circular wooden platters. As well as great hunks of flesh, BBQ ribs are available with either hand-cut chips, a grilled baked potato, some red skinned mashed potato or new potatoes with garlic and parsley - the choice is yours.
The steakhouse itself is, frankly, huge and can get quite busy, but don't let that faze you. Once you sit down, your conversation won't be affected by the surrounding hubbub, and although the waiters and waitresses may be buzzing around like flies, they'll always approach and serve you with a smile.
