Veeraswamy

The Veeraswamy restaurant is located on Regent Street and is something of an institution in London. Established in 1926, it is the oldest Indian restaurant in the United Kingdom and has been awarded with several prizes throughout its history, such as one award from the National Geographic who named Veeraswamy the number Eight Best Destination and Special Restaurant in the World. This is not surprising really, considering its beautiful ambience and deliciously prepared food.

Veeraswamy's interior is exotic and chic, yet homely and cosy. The walls are decorated with rich coloured turbans belonging to Indian Maharajas who were guests at the restaurant in its early years. The silver painted ceiling is 10 feet high and contrasts with the dark wooden floor which has been laid with Indian black granite sprinkled with gold.

The menu of the Veeraswamy is composed of dishes from all over India with classics as well as contemporary designs. Oyster kebabs, Nizami Murgh and chocolate kulfi are just a few dishes that can be found on the extravagant menu. The selection offered changes periodically so that guests will find themselves having new options almost every time they dine at the Veeraswamy. Since most dishes are designed for sharing, Veeraswamy can create an intimate atmosphere for those who wish it. Prices range from £6.50 - £11 for the first course, the main courses is between £16 -£21, and desserts are generally £5.50.
