Selfridges
London
If you’re a Londoner, there really is only one department store. Every Londoner’s go-to, Selfridge’s youthful feel, central location and unpretentious vibe, along with its luxe air and awesome array of goods make it arguably the best department store in a city famous for its department stores.
Highlights are numerous – the food hall is famous for its wide selection of produce and is headed up by one of the best butchers in the city; the book department is carefully selected and finds many hard-to-find rareties; the menswear selection is massive and the womenswear department alone contains more blue-chip brands than most cities alongside a fiercely independent spirit in selecting the hottest young things. Last but most certainly not least are the Shoes Galleries, opened in a blaze of hype a few years ago, containing one of the largest selections of designers shoes anywhere on the planet. It takes up almost an entire floor in itself.
The accessories selection contains the usual concessions and is usually one of Londoners’ first stops when looking for that special gift. The food hall features a unique wine dispensary that allows the tasting of incredible vintages at affordable prices. Thought you’d never get to try that Chateau Petrus? Think again.
