Buen Ayre
London
Hyped as London's answer to the seemingly dominant Gaucho in The City, Buen Ayre is a punchy counterpart. Also dishing out steaks from the steak-capital of the world, Argentina, Buen Ayre pin-points its attention on creating plates creaking with chunks of meat, rather than developing a pretentious, gimmicky style and atmosphere. Furniture and decor is certainly nothing to shout about with the plain cream walls and thick wooden chairs and tables, but this does nothing to deter the quality of the food, speed and politeness of service.
One tip for this place is to book in advance, otherwise you could face a wait for a table, and being asked to leave about an hour after you arrive. Another tip: don't come here if you're after anything but steak. Fillets, sirloins, rib-eyes, rumps and flanks dominate the menu on both the sharing and solo platter options, as do chorizo sausages, black puddings, kidneys and sweetbreads. The only relief from the meaty bombardment are the side orders of various salad selections, chips, drinks and desserts.
Opening times: Mondays - Fridays: 18:00 - 22:30, Weekends: 12:00 - 15:30 & 18:00 - 22:30
