Scott's
London
Before we get down to any sort of nitty-gritty - which will be worth the wait - allow us to warn you now that Scott's is a place for special occasions only. The food, the wine, the service is all spectacular but everything comes at a price, and prices are biggies at Scott's with the cheapest starter - griddled sardines on toast - coming in at a hefty £8.75. Rest assured, however, that your experience at one of London's best seafood restaurants, one with huge popularity and recognition, will live long-term in the memory.
The food at this place is second-to-none and the menu is vast. Oysters, caviar, crustacea, soups, fishes on the bone, veggie dishes, sole, main fish meals and meat and game meals all feature in their varying forms. Portions are as hulking as the prices, as well, with whole skates as big as paving slabs and halibuts that could outweigh T-bones. Even though you should dress up for this place (so you can't wear stretchy trousers) make sure you're very, very hungry, because you won't want to miss out on dessert. Incidentally, the puddings here follow the same route as the rest of the food: unbelievable in taste. Vanilla cheesecake, apple pie, warm pistachio cake or cosmopolitan jelly, it's up to you. We will say this, though: the ice-cream at Scott's, made with delicious Jersey cream, is damn-near incredible.
So, what with all this pomp and opulence, you'd expect some of the rich and famous to make appearances, would you not? You'd be right to; Elton John has been spotting eating here on the odd occasion, as well as several other world-renowned personalities. Now, go raid your savings and get down to Scott's - you'd be lucky to eat better seafood anywhere in London.
Opening times: Monday - Saturday: 12:00 - 22:30, Sunday: 12:00 - 22:00
