You can't talk about The Delaunay without mentioning its twin sister, The Wolseley, in the same breath. The two places are owned by the same people and, therefore, harbour a few similarities: the menu, the service and the decor, for example. None of these are any worse in The Delaunay; in fact, they're both spectacular in each establishment with The Delaunay owning a distinct 1930s London appeal. Service is genial and professional, and they'll even supply you with a newspaper if you turn up before the rest of your chums.
Like the Wolseley, the Delaunay is modelled on the grand cafes and dining rooms of Europe. However, instead of the French-slant of its sister, the influence here is predominantly Austro-Hungarian and is reflected in the menu; you can enjoy all of the Delaunay's elegance and grace while nibbling on one of their delicious grilled chicken with spinach and red pepper paninos, a salt beef and mustard pretzel, some rarebit, a cheeseboard or a gorgeous Black Forest chocolate gateaux. Also, if you haven't already, try the kedgeree; it's absolutely terrific. Both filling and just the right amount of spice together with the smoked fish makes the kedgeree a hearty, simple and satisfying meal.
Bring your friends or loved ones along to the Delaunay and, if you feel inclined, check out the Wolseley as well for a comparison of two of London's most beloved institutions.
Dinner Opening times: Monday - Saturday: 11:00 - 24:00, Sunday: 11:30 - 23:00
If you fancy sampling the great food at the Delaunay but have no time to make a dinner booking, then head along before work for a great breakfast, the perfect start to the day. Their Eggs Benedict is delicious, as well as their Florentine and Arlington alternatives. They also serve pancakes and waffles if you have more of a sweet tooth.
