Famous Department Stores

House of Fraser is probably best summed up as the dependable doyenne of British department stores (as opposed to London), with branches in every major city in the UK.

Most of the stock is comfortably midranged - you're not going to find anything here, for example - but fabulous all the same, with affordable luxury brands like J Smedley, Linea and Ralph Lauren getting a little update from hot young things like Biba and LOVE Moschino.

Notably, British shopping high priestess Mary Portas has recently set to work on House of Fraser, and an updated and reinvigorated air abounds. Her concession, Mary, is aimed at the glamorous and established (aka middle aged) shopper. The service here is very, very good, with prompt, friendly service and a 'moan phone' for complaints and praises.

The beauty and fragrance section is particularly strong and offers a diverse selection.
