Kazan - Victoria
London
Think of Turkish food, particularly Turkish-Cypriot food, and images of grease-soaked kebab-filled pittas spring immediately to mind. Now, unless you've had a ten-pint starter, this image rarely appeals. Fortunately, the Turkish-Cypriot cuisine offered at the Kazan Victoria restaurant comprises the finest and freshest ingredients used in an innovative selection of dishes from this region, all extremely tasty, aromatic, healthy and refined.
The stylish interiors of the Kazan Victoria restaurant set the scene perfectly for some refined dining. Head brothers Levent and Bulent Hassan aimed to bring the style of the mid-Orient to the heart of London, which is something they certainly achieve here - silk cushions, crystal chandeliers, plush, deep sofas and intimate lighting create an extremely palatial effect throughout, while the attentive and professional team of staff is always on hand to ensure every diner's whim and want is handled with aplomb.
The Kazan Victoria restaurant is situated on Wilton Road in London's SW1V district, and opens from noon every day, closing at midnight (last orders at 10.45pm). The cuisine ranges from a typical selection of cold and hot mezzes, while the Kazan fire grills are the restaurant's specials, particularly the Sultan's Shish Kebabs, the Pasha Koftesi, the Ottoman Grill and the Kulbasti fillet of lamb. There are also some exceptional seafood dishes for diners to sample, with the sea bass parcel particularly recommended, as are the innovative salmon kebabs. So there you have it - authentic Turkish-Cypriot cuisine, made from fresh ingredients, served in sophisticated surroundings and not a greasy kebab in sight!
