Hidden in Soho beneath a sex shop, ablaze with neon signs, La Bodega Negra serves up Mexican food and drink in this ultra-trendy downtown-style café and restaurant. With seating for up to 60 people, lunch and dinner can be enjoyed on the ground-level café and bar, with tasty snacks including tacos, quesadillas and taquitos.

Downstairs, the restaurant and bar crafts together a full dinner menu with an impressive list of tequila and mescal cocktails, along with other bar drinks. Dishes include seafood and rice cazuela, slow roasted lamb barbacoa and wood-roasted vegetable enchiladas, with hundreds of types of chillies making an appearance in the dishes.

The vaulted space of the restaurant is filled with little nooks, moody lighting and interesting décor. Lined with a cardboard cut-out of the city’s landscape, along with grand pianos used as room dividers, mirrored alcoves, denim seat coverings and Mexican wrestling masks, the eclectic décor of the restaurant personifies this quirky hacienda-style cellar environment.
