Moshi Moshi - Liverpool Street
Want extremely decadent Japanese food served in funky and luxurious surroundings? Don't head to Tokyo (well, you could; there would be plenty of eateries there that fit this bill), head to Liverpool Street in the heart of the City of London. That's right, the centre of London has a restaurant. A Japanese one. And this one is called Moshi Moshi and is open from Monday to Friday from 11.30am to 10pm, and closed at the weekends, which is the norm for restaurants located in the City.
The principles of Moshi Moshi are based around using only the most seasonal and freshest ingredients available, and culinary techniques that steer clear from overcooking, ensuring the natural essence of all meats, fish and vegetables used in the dishes is maintained wherever possible. The simple flavours and beautiful fusion of spices, herbs and top-quality ingredients provide a welcome relief from the modern world's propensity for ostentation and overcooking.
This philosophy is immediately evident in pretty much every dish served at Moshi Moshi. As the original conveyor-belt sushi bar in the UK, the dishes just keep on coming, with a wonderful kaleidoscope of flavours just waiting to be unearthed. The menu is well-priced and unpretentious, with standout attractions including the salt and sansho pepper fried Cornish fish, the orange steamed custard covered chicken breast, the spinach ohitashi, the chicken kara-age and the aji no tataki. There are also some exceptional platters available, including sushi, tempura and yakitori, while the sashimi offerings, soups, salads and wines are unfailingly wonderful.
