York and Albany - Gordon Ramsay
London
A surprising break in the norm of Gordon Ramsay's usual location choice, the York and Albany sees itself rubbing shoulders with Camden Town's exuberance and Regent's Park's gentle accessibility. The Albany is also Ramsay's first hotel - that could have something to do with where it's been built.
Professional chef and novice hotelier, Gordon Ramsay's Albany boasts ten rooms together with its restaurant and bar. And what a restaurant and bar they are. Blending cool with sophistication, floor-to-ceiling segmented windows flooded with sunlight, high-backed black leather seating around marble dining tables and ceilings far out of reach, the Albany oozes with class and grandeur. But that's just one section. There are multiple seating areas in mood-changing environments: darker, cozy corners of crimson overlooking the open kitchen, and social, rounded tables with wall-mounted televisions at hand offer a plethora of choice for hungry customers.
Reflecting the suave style of the restaurant itself, aperitifs include bowls of olives, salt and pepper squid, and sliced chorizo. Starters include soups, black pudding, and salmon fishcakes. While the main course highlights are hake, sea bream, carver duck, and rib-eye steak. Wood-fired oven pizza or a pasta dish are excellent choices too, and for dessert you can choose from, among others, treacle tart, vanilla cheesecake, or a selection of cheeses. Sunday roasts, breakfasts and children's menus are also available.
