Elystan Street

A return to Michelin-started Elystan Street for lunch. A really enjoyable meal. Some great cooking. Nothing fancy however seasonal produce, full of flavour, nicely presented made for some great dishes. Service was friendly, however at a 15% charge I expected the food to be introduced and explained and not just plonked on the table. Although the dining room was relatively quiet, it was classy with some cool art on the walls. The playlist wasn’t bad either until the music stopped. Three courses for £45 was decent enough value. The £2 cover charge is a fairly new one for me and I assume covered the ‘free’ bread. And £5 for clearly requested tap water seemed OTT. These quibbles aside, an easy recommendation for a nice lunch
Loved the evening. Beautiful food, friendly service, calm surroundings and reasonable price. Highly recommended.
I think I put a lot of expectation for the recommendations and awards… Food was ok (an omelet was very salty), service ok too and the atmosphere fine… didn’t surprised me. I don’t know if I recommend it but I wouldn’t go back.
Have wanted to come to Elystan St for some time and travelled from Ireland to experience the Sunday Lunch. Beautiful restaurant and a warm friendly welcome. Starters, parfait was super light and with good flavour, pasta well balanced and a luxurious eat. But then the roast rump and trimmings arrived - i honestly do not know how this came out of the same kitchen. Beef was tasteless and the Yorkshire pudding was void of flavour and very dry. No love given to any of the veg - not sure when the carrots had been cooked just mushy and cauliflower cheese over cooked and wet mush. Roast potatoes soapy, sweet and not freshly cooked either. Pudding, burnt honey slice was nice and the cheese uninspiring. Good wine list and staff were excellent Not sure if we'd return.
Being honest the food was fairly average for what we paid but drinks were very nice. Was alittle disappointed as this place was recommended by a food podcast I listen to. However overall was a pleasant evening and staff were top notch.
