Missouri Grill - Angel
London
It's a grill! From Missouri! Except it's not. Located in the rather-American surroundings of America Square near the Tower Hill Tube Station in the heart of London, the Missouri Grill Angel is so much more than some tacky USA-themed diner masquerading as a place of fine cuisine. For a start, the interior décor is actually rather refined and understated, while the staff are polite and unobtrusive, making for a pleasantly laid-back atmosphere that has no call for ostentation.
The menu at the Missouri Grill Angel is where any doubt that this is an American eatery subsides. All dishes are well-proportioned, hearty and simple, comprising fresh ingredients and a range of classics that will either be instantly recognisable or at least presented in a straightforward fashion. Starters are large and delicious, particularly the New England clam chowder, the crab cakes and the grilled aubergines.
For mains, the Missouri Grill Angel delivers some of the finest steaks and burgers found anywhere in London. The 10oz grilled rump and rib-eye steaks are cooked as requested, and sublimely succulent each time, while the prime New York strip steak comes with skinny french fries and smooth homemade bearnaise sauce. Additional favourites from the menu include the lamb loin chop with spiced apricot chutney, the smoked St Louis ribs with apple and mustard coleslaw and the Missouri rub breast of duck with goat's cheese and tomato tamale. A sleek and sophisticated bar area proves a popular pre and post-meal hangout with diners, where lovely cocktails, wines and beers are served.
