Founded in 1970 by Marisa and Gabriele Palumbo, the Ravello restaurant is something of a highly revered institution in the heart of London's Clerkenwell district. A recent refurbishment at Ravello's - to mark its 35th anniversary - has added an artistic look and feel to the cosy interiors, with 15 unique works of art added to the walls, echoing the traditions and customs of southern Italy. Equally, the cuisine served at Ravello is a nod to the Campania region of Italy, where authentic flavours from the Mediterranean are realised, right in the heart of London. Being an Italian restaurant, diners at Ravello can be assured of fresh, delicious and recognisable dishes adorning the menu. The main anitpasti dishes worth sampling include the marinated anchovies with parmesan and salad, the carpaccio with mixed wild mushrooms and the layered aubergine with parmesan and mozzarella. Pasta dishes worthy of note include the spaghetti with clams and mussells and the risotto with home-made Italian sausages, while for fish-lovers, the mixed deep-fried squid with whitebait and prawns is not to be missed.
