The Modern Pantry is a restaurant housed within a stylish three-storey Grade II listed Georgian building. The décor inside fuses traditional heritage design with modern elegance giving it a simple, yet attractive appearance.
Set over three floors, the lowest level houses a casual dining café and serves up food all day long. Come here for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or afternoon tea – for which there is a special menu that offers a selection of sandwiches, sweet or savoury scones and a variety of cakes, as well as an option to have it with or without bubbles (£20 with, £15 without). On a summers day, enjoy your food alfresco in the small outdoor dining area in front of the restaurant. Prices are very reasonable, particularly for the two course set lunch option that is just £20 per person. Also on the ground floor is a small pantry that sells delicatessen dishes, sandwiches, cakes, coffees, teas and juices to take away. Upstairs there is a restaurant for more formal dining, and the Foundry Room for private events and larger groups.
If you fancy sampling the delights at The Modern Pantry but cannot make dinner, then do not miss out as they have an extensive Breakfast menu during the week, and are open for mid-morning Brunch at the weekend. They have a wide range of pastries, made in-house, as well as Muesli and healthy fruit, grain and seed alternatives to a traditional English breakfast. However, if you do fancy a great cooked breakfast, then choices are plentiful. We recommend the New Caledonian Prawn omelette with green chilli and spring onions or the Grilled Chorizo, caramelized plantain fritters and slow roasted vine-ripened tomatoes. Delicious!
